ENGINEERING PRACTICE

What human accountability means in AI-assisted engineering

Faster delivery is useful only when someone remains responsible for what reaches production.

01

Give every important decision an owner

AI can suggest an implementation or generate a test. An engineer still needs to understand the change, review its assumptions and decide whether it is appropriate. Ownership should be visible in the delivery process.

02

Treat generated output as a proposal

Review AI-assisted code against the same standards as other contributions. Check behavior, dependencies, data handling and failure paths. A convincing explanation is not a substitute for evidence.

03

Keep release approval human

Define acceptance criteria before implementation. Collect test results and review security-sensitive changes. The person approving a release should understand both the evidence and the remaining uncertainty.
